MathCon (Virtual Event) - Register by January 31st!
- Date: Two options for days to compete: February 3rd at 11am ET OR February 4th at 7pm ET. You will receive a google calendar information with a zoom link for both times. Accept one invitation and decline the other. If you cannot compete during these times, email Mrs. McGowan ([email protected]) for a third option.
- Cost: $15 per student (Includes 4 practice tests, competition, and LSS MathTeam shirt)
- MathCON is a nonprofit, prestigious two-round math competition that was founded in 2008. MathCON invites all students from 4th to 12th grade across the United States and Canada to participate! Over the course of its history, MathCON has proudly engaged more than 434,000 students from over 3,000 schools. MathCON unfolds in two dynamic rounds:
- MathCON Online Test (1st Round): Embrace the challenge and excitement of the MathCON Online Test.
- MathCON Finals (2nd Round): Following the Online Test, the spotlight turns to the MathCON Finals. This stage gathers the best of the best, with 628 top-scoring students from 4th to 12th grade earning their place. If your child qualifies for this round they will have the opportunity to compete in Chicago, Illinois in May 2025. This is optional but we would love to have you attend if you qualify!
- Registration for MathCon will allow students access to the first round test and 4 practice tests online through the MathCon portal. Login information will be emailed after registration. Email Mrs. McGowan at [email protected] if you do not receive information within a week after registratation.
- We will be preparing for the MathCon competition as well as others through Math Team meetings throughout the year and through Math Palooza breakouts every Friday at 11am ET in December and January.
College of Charleston Math Competition (In-Person Event): Register by January 31st!
- Date: Saturday, February 22nd
- Location: College of Charleston in Charleston, SC
- Cost: $55 per student and $15 per adult (Includes College of Charleston Math Competition shirt, competition registration, lunch, and a full day of fun. Adult fee covers lunch.)
- Students are required to have a parent/guardian accompany them for this competition.
- Join us for a fun day of math competitions at the College of Charleston! Compete in teams, individually, and/or as part of a relay! Competitions are centered around math, physics, geometry, brainstorming, estimation, and general math knowledge. MathTeam will prep for these events during meetings leading up to the competition. This is a full day of engaging activities and a great way to explore college life while engaging with like-minded peers.
- Free Add-on for Friday, February 21st (starts at 4:30pm ET): Friday Night Programming Competition: Teams of 3 compete together to answer questions involving critical thinking and coding (Python and Java). Participating gains you a tour of the campus, dinner, and fun with like-minded peers! Email Mrs. McGowan to see if there is room available on a team.
GA Tech High School Math Day (In Person Event): Register by January 27th!
- Date: Saturday, March 8, 2025
- Time: 8:30 am - 5:00pm ET (Schedule of Events)
- Location: Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA.
- Cost: $20 per student (Includes GA Tech Math Day shirt, lunch, competition, and a full day of fun at GA Tech)
- Deadline to register: Monday, January 13th
- Maximum of 20 students
- Parents must accompany students for this event
- Georgia Tech High School Math Day (HSMD) is a math festival that takes place at Georgia Institute of Technology in downtown Atlanta and kicks off the Atlanta Science Festival that happens all month long. Focused on making math fun and accessible to all, the event includes two math competitions for each student, activity stations, an invited talk, a panel with mathematicians, and many more fun ways to engage. Come hang out with us and explore what GA Tech has to offer!
Stanford Math Tournament: Details Coming Soon!
- The Stanford Math Tournament is a high school math tournament run by students at Stanford University. They are passionate about providing a high quality and challenging event to students interested in mathematics around the globe. This competition will be available virtually, but we are also entering the lottery to go in person for those interested in traveling to Stanford University in California. Students will practice for this competition during Math Team meetings throughout the year. To compete as part of a team, students must be active members of the Math Team and must have participated in team practice.
